Why COIs Are Essential
Certificates of Insurance (COIs) are a critical safeguard that:
Protect the Sorority and chapter from financial liability in the event of an incident.
Ensure contractual compliance when engaging with third-party venues or vendors.
Provide assurance to universities, vendors, and partners that our events meet proper insurance standards.
When a COI Is Required
A COI must be obtained when a chapter is:
Hosting any event at an external venue (banquet halls, hotels, parks, etc.).
Holding chapter meetings (including Graduate Chapters), whether on-campus or off-campus.
Signing a contract or agreement requiring proof of insurance.
Participating in university-sponsored events where proof of coverage is mandatory.
Conducting activities with higher risk exposure (e.g., large public gatherings, athletic events, off-campus functions).
How to Secure a COI
Submit a request using one of the following:
Include detailed event information: date, time, location, and certificate holder’s name.
Allow a minimum of 7 business days for processing.
Next Steps for Chapters
Review all planned events for the current and upcoming Sorority year.
Request COIs early to avoid last-minute delays.
Maintain a copy of each COI in your chapter’s records.
