Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a tax-exempt organization recognized under Section 501(c)(7) of the Internal Revenue Code, managed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). All regions and chapters share in the Sorority's tax-exempt status under its group exemption.
A tax-exempt organization must file an annual information return or notice with the IRS, unless an exception applies. Annual information returns include Form 990 and Form 990-EZ. Form 990-N is an annual notice. The form which is required will depend on the amount of gross receipts collected by a tax-exempt organization per year:
Status | Form to File |
Gross receipts normally ≤ $50,000 | 990-N |
Gross receipts < $200,000, and Total assets < $500,000 | 990-EZ or 990 |
Gross receipts ≥ $200,000, or Total assets ≥ $500,000 | 990 |
These forms are the IRS' primary tools for gathering information about tax-exempt organizations, educating organizations about tax law requirements and promoting compliance. Organizations also use the Form 990 to share information with the public about their programs.
